H. Y-V. | Sleep Apnea - continued ...

But I never really figured out how to keep the air blowing into my nose at an acceptable humidity. Another major issue was that I tried various headsets, breathing masks and nose plugs, some of which would irritate my nostrils and other would be too big to sleep with.

And eventually I gave up and I have not used this machine for over a year. During this time period and while I was trying out the CPAP, I started taking Lumesta to even be able to get some sleep, since the CPAP was being a challenge. And even the Lunesta is not giving me a good nights sleep. I was often groggy in the morning. I had to sleep extra hours in order to feel like I had enough sleep and yet I was usually still sleepy during the day.

I recently went to see an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist and he immediately recommended surgery. For my mild to moderate case of sleep apnea the surgery he recommended sounded way too serious and he could not promise 100% recovery. He just said that for 2 weeks I would be in terrible pain and discomfort. He knew of no other remedy for my condition, which was very disheartening.

Not thrilled with the remedies for this condition that I had been presented with I decided to try the dental appliance. While it was more expensive than CPAP it was not nearly as invasive and scary as surgery. It was still a strange idea and until I actually saw the appliance and put it in my mouth did I really understand it's functionality.

The 2nd sleep specialist I consulted had recommended Dr. Samani. This specialist thought that this route would be my best option (since surgery was NOT going to happen!)
