J. M. | Implant Restorations - continued ...
The thought of losing my teeth made me feel old. How would people perceive me? I called my dentist and spoke to her for about an hour. Was I doing the right thing? Was there really no way I could save my teeth? I talked with my husband. I needed his assurance that he would perceive me as the same. I spent hours on the internet researching dental implants and over-dentures. I am sure I visited each web site ten times paying special attention to the testimonials from people who had dental implants initially and those who had dentures for a number of years and then decided to have implants. All of the testimonials stated that the implants had made a definite improvement in their quality of life.
After evaluating the professional advice I had received, my research and soul searching, I realized having dental implants and over-dentures was the best solution to my dental problems. With the encouragement of the professionals I was relying upon, my husband, family and friends who I had consulted with, I made what was to be one of the best decisions of my life, and made the appointment for the extractions and the beginning of my dental program.
The process took 21 months. It involved the extractions, temporary dentures, healing, a dental CAT scan, an unexpected bone graft in the ridge of my lower jaw, healing, placement of the upper implants, healing, placement of the lower implants, healing and the prosthodontic work which included the connecting bars and over-dentures. It involved lots of soup, oatmeal, scrambled eggs and patience. All of this led me to this, my testimonial which reaffirms all of those which I read on the internet web sites.
Dental implants have definitely made a difference in the quality of my life. They are more functional than my own teeth were. I am able to chew better and enjoy my food better, especially the items that I was not able to eat before. Aesthetically, my appearance has greatly improved.
